I saw Merlyn Chesterman’s art at the RA Summer Exhibition this year, and then a week later on holiday with friends in North Devon, which is where Merlyn lives and works.
There’s a strong movement in the compositions, which seem to be influenced by East Asian traditions, including manga comic strips.
I understand that Merlyn and her family have links to Hong Kong, and the B&B she runs is full of Chinese objects and books. What a fascinating and independent mind, and striking art.
There is more available to view on the website of Pine Feroda, the collective that Merlyn sometimes works in.
Isn’t this one incredibly beautiful?
