A riveting history of gardening and agriculture that also highlights the diversity of Italy’s landscape and culture. Recipes and maps are sprinkled through the pages and it was thanks to the original hardcover that I first noticed the lemons in Botticelli’s Primavera.


One of the other artists referenced in the book is Bartolemeo Bimbi:

His job was to flatter patrons by depicting what their gardens could grow.
