Doesn’t this make you think of Scheherazade, perhaps practising her tales on her friends?
Karolin’s use of abstract lines and bold colour remind me of 1940s lino prints, Iznik tiles and the Arabian nights and Russian folk tales.
Her work focuses on women and I’m intrigued by how the simple and often stylised work still shows strong personalities and emotions.
What I most admire is that Karolin has taken on several more serious projects, illustrating articles for mental health blogs or public health debates in the New York Times.
