The Glass of Fashion

There’s no denying Cecil Beaton’s snobbishness, but his book The Glass of Fashion is like the best gossip and fashion mag rolled into one, even if there is a suspiciously high proportion of Duchesses with excellent taste (clue: try whitewashed walls, sunlight and a single El Greco by your bed.)

Like Diana Vreeland, he absolutely knew how to persuade and to sell. This description of a house in the south of France is a perfect example of how evocative and mouth-wateringly envy-making his writing is. Don’t you want to rush out and buy some new, soft towels now?
